Video: Religion of Pieces

So, Was It a FAKE Attack On An Australian Mosque?

Okay folks, I'm going to go out on a limb here and let you know that I am 100% certain that at some point in the near future, this "hate attack", this fire bombing of a mosque in Australia, will be determined to have been a FAKE attack that was actually enacted by Muslims trying to feed Islamophobia propaganda.

Anyone want to take that bet with me?

The story comes from DAWN.

Firebomb attack outside Australian mosque termed 'hate crime'

SYDNEY: A firebomb attack outside an Australian mosque during prayers was condemned Wednesday by Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, with one Islamic leader calling it a "hate crime".

No one was injured in Tuesday night's blast which destroyed a car parked outside a mosque and Islamic college in the Perth suburb of Thornlie.

"It is believed an accelerant was used to start the fire," Western Australian police said in a statement, adding that three other vehicles were damaged in the incident. "Anti-Islamic graffiti was located spray painted on a wall associated with the college, near the damaged vehicles."

The mosque's Yahya Adel Ibrahim said the community in Perth had been visited "by hate" but would not retaliate by "hating and playing blame games".

"This, undoubtedly is a criminal act of hate, but it is the act of a person or group not the greater whole," he said on Facebook. "Despite what just transpired, everyone stayed to finish their prayers, refusing to give into the terror that had just occurred."

Anti-Muslim sentiment has become more prominent in Australia over the past year as concerns have mounted over homegrown extremism and citizens travelling to Iraq and Syria to support militant groups.

But Turnbull, who faces a general election on Saturday, said Australia had a fundamental foundation of mutual respect.

"I deplore and I cannot condemn strongly enough any attacks of that kind," he told radio station 6PR.

Australian Islamic College executive principal Abdullah Khan said while the attack came as a shock, he had been reassured by the support from the community.

At the last national census in 2011, Muslims made up less than 3 per cent of the overall Australian population of 24 million, with the overwhelming majority of the country identifying as Christian.

Israel and Turkey Restore Ties

Binali Yildirim

If you read the article here from DAWN, about the Israeli-Turkish restoration of relations, please note how Turkey's Erdogan went out of his way to reach out to the PLO and to Hamas after this deal was done - you know DAMN WELL that Erdogan was against it but I'm guessing the pressure from inside of his country and government was too great or ISIS is scaring the shit out of them.

Anyway, I wouldn't trust Erdogan as far as he could throw a Qur'an.

Israeli, Turkish leaders laud deal to restore ties

JERUSALEM: Israeli and Turkish leaders on Monday lauded a deal reached at the weekend to restore ties after six years of acrimony over a deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed Israel's maritime blockade of the Hamas-run Gaza Strip would remain after the agreement, though Turkey obtained aid concessions for the Palestinian enclave.

His Turkish counterpart Binali Yildirim said that “to this end, our first ship loaded with over 10,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid will leave for Israel's Ashdod port on Friday.” Yildirim also noted Israel's commitment to pay $20 million in compensation over the 2010 raid that killed 10 Turkish activists, in exchange for all claims against Israeli soldiers being dropped.

Netanyahu pointed to the economic benefits for Israel, with his country in search of regional customers for gas exports and talk of a potential pipeline to Turkey.

Speaking in Rome after meeting US Secretary of State John Kerry, Netanyahu described the agreement as having “immense implications for the Israeli economy”.

“I mean positive, immense implications,” he said.

Kerry also hailed the deal as a “positive step”, while UN chief Ban Ki-moon, on a visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories, called it a “hopeful signal for the stability of the region”.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas spoke by phone overnight, with the Turkish leader explaining the agreement's main points, a statement from the Palestinian presidency said.

Erdogan also met with Doha-based Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal on Friday in anticipation of the agreement.

After the deal is signed on Tuesday, the approval process will start in both countries, and the Turkish premier said Ankara would appoint an ambassador to Tel Aviv within weeks.

Iranian forces clash with Kurds, killing five

Iranian forces clash with Kurds, killing five

AP, Tehran Saturday, 25 June 2016

Iranian security forces have clashed with Kurdish separatists who infiltrated a northwestern village, killing five of them, according to the country’s powerful Revolutionary Guard.

The Guard’s website said five “terrorists,” including two “leaders,” were killed in the fighting in the West Azerbaijan province, near the Iraqi border, and that a “chase operation to destroy other terrorists is underway.”

It said no Iranian forces were wounded in the clashes, and that they confiscated large amounts of weapons and ammunition.

The Kurdish group could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Guard clashed with Kurdish insurgents in West Azerbaijan earlier this month. The Guard said it killed 12 insurgents while three of its members died. The Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan said the Kurds killed over a dozen Guard members, including a colonel.

Iran faces threats from several militant groups, ranging from Sunni Arabs in its southern, oil-rich region, Kurds in its northwest and Baluch separatists on its eastern border with Pakistan.

Attacks are rarely publicized in Iran, but last week authorities announced that they had broken up one of the “biggest terrorist plots” ever on Iranian soil by Sunni extremists planning bombings in Tehran and elsewhere.

Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi was later quoted by the semi-official ISNA news agency as saying that 10 suspects had been arrested in connection to the plot, which was to involve 50 bombings in the capital.

A Sunni Arab group claimed an attack on an oil pipeline in southern Iran last week, while Iranian forces battled the Sunni militant group Jaish al-Adl in the southeast, according to Stratfor, a private intelligence firm based in Austin, Texas.

Islamic State launch new attacks Afghanistan, dozens killed

You know, it's damn good that Barry Obama has this JV team all contained and on their heels, yanno?

The story comes from Times of India.

Islamic State launch new attacks Afghanistan, dozens killed

JALALABAD: Heavy fighting between Afghan forces and Islamic State jihadists has killed dozens of people, officials said on Sunday, raising fears the terrorist group is staging a comeback months after Kabul said they had been defeated.

The fighting began late on Friday in the Kot area of the Rodat district in eastern Nangarhar province after a contingent of ISIS fighters attacked police check posts, provincial governor Salim Khan Kunduzi said.

The interior ministry in a statement said at least 18 fighters had been killed and more than 40 others wounded so far, though Kunduzi placed the number of ISIS fighters killed as high as 36 and said at least a dozen security forces personnel and civilians had also died.

Scores of people have been forced out of their homes, according to local officials.

ISIS jihadists began making inroads into Afghanistan in late 2014, winning over sympathizers, recruiting followers and challenging the Taliban on their own turf, primarily in the country's east. But in March, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani announced that the Islamists had been defeated following a months-long military operation. The US military estimates between 1,000 and 3,000 ISIS fighters are in Afghanistan, mostly comprised of disaffected Pakistani and Afghan Taliban, as well as Uzbek Islamists and locals.

Earlier this month the US President Barack Obama ordered the US military tackle the resurgent Taliban more directly — in tandem with Afghan allies, ratcheting up a 15-year conflict he had vowed to end.

On Saturday the US military carried out its first air strikes against Taliban targets under the newly approved rules, which mean US troops can now work more closely with local fighters in striking the Taliban. Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said the strikes occurred in southern Afghanistan, but he did not provide additional details.

Islamic State officially creates province in the Philippines

Isnilon Hapilon (background, arm raised), emir of Islamic State in the Philippines.

The JV squad continues to expand.

The story comes from The Long War Journal.

Islamic State officially creates province in the Philippines

After months of buildup, which included pledges of loyalty from various local groups, the Islamic State has officially created a province in the Philippines. A newly released video from the region, which was produced in the same style as all other Islamic State provinces, offered confirmation of the new province.

The video begins by showing several “battalions” of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) pledging allegiance to the Islamic State. This includes the Abu Dujana Battalion, Abu Khubaib Battalion, Jundallah Battalion, and the Abu Sadr Battalion. These battalions joined others from ASG, including Jund al Tawhid, Ansar al Sharia, and Marakah al Ansar in pledging bayah to the Islamic State. Additionally, some of ASG’s leadership, including overall leader Isnilon Hapilon (who is shown in the video), have pledged to the jihadist group.

Hapilon, a US-designated terrorist, was again confirmed as the leader of all of the Islamic State’s forces in the Philippines. In an April issue of the Islamic State’s weekly newsletter Al Naba, the jihadist group said that Hapilon, also known as Abu Abdullah al Filipini, had been appointed as emir. In a portion of the video featuring a Filipino fighter in Raqqah, Syria, he confirms the Al Naba report.

Hapilon is the senior most figure to have defected to the Islamic State in the Philippines. The video also confirms that a formal leadership structure for the Islamic State has indeed been put into place, exemplifying its expansion in the country. This was also seen earlier this month in an infographic released by the ‘Amaq News Agency, one of the jihadist group’s news outlets. The infographic included several important facts from the Islamic State in the Philippines, including the number of groups that have pledged allegiance and where they operate. (See Threat Matrix report, Islamic State details activity in the Philippines.)

While the infographic contains numbers from April 2015, it also notes the first official announcement of Filipino jihadist groups pledging allegiance to the Islamic State occurred in January 2016. Videos and reports of groups pledging bayah have emerged since 2014, shortly after Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State, claimed the creation of a caliphate. The video in January, however, was the first time the Islamic State publicly accepted these pledges. A month later, the Islamic State’s Furat media outlet released another video showing more groups pledging allegiance.

These groups include the aforementioned battalions of ASG, the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), Ansar Khilafah in the Philippines, the Islamic State in Lanao, Jamaat al Tawhid wal Jihad (a group formerly loyal to al Qaeda), and parts of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Their claimed areas of operation largely correspond with the reported areas of the aforementioned groups. This includes the southern areas of Basilan, South Cotabato, Sulu, Sarangani, Lanao del Sur, and the northern province of Isabela.

Several of these groups, including Ansar Khilafah, the Islamic State in Lanao, and the Jamaat al Tawhid wal Jihad (JTJ) have publicized training camps in the region. Ansar Khilafah was the first to do so last December, while the latter two groups did so last month and in March, respectively. A video from JTJ’s training camp, the “Osama bin Laden training camp,” also publicized its loyalty to Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.

In addition to the pledges to the Islamic State in the months building up to yesterday’s video, the Islamic State has claimed several attacks in the Philippines in recent months. One of these attacks was featured in the video, which showed Islamic State fighters engaging in a firefight with Filipino security forces. Several vehicles and weapons are shown to have been captured by the jihadists. Additionally, the video pays tribute to several fighters who have been killed in clashes with the Filipino military. This includes Abu Khattab, a Moroccan bomb expert within ASG, who was killed in April.

While the video was made to announce a Philippines province, a good portion of the video was filmed in Syria. Indonesian, Malaysian, and Filipino fighters in Syria’s Raqqah province are shown discussing these pledges and encouraging others to follow suit in Southeast Asia. The three are later shown simultaneously beheading three Assad regime soldiers somewhere in Raqqah.

The Islamic State has also inroads in the wider Southeast Asia region, an area that has historically featured al Qaeda activity. Jemaah Islamiyyah (JI), al Qaeda’s historical branch in Southeast Asia, has also suffered defections to the Islamic State. Shortly after Baghdadi’s announcement of the caliphate in 2014, Abu Bakar Bashir, the spiritual leader and co-founder of JI as well as the emir of its offshoot Jemaah Ansharut Tauhid, pledged allegiance to Baghdadi. However, Bashir’s two sons and several other leaders left and formed their own group, Jemaah Ansharusy Syariah. According to the Jakarta Post, more than 50 percent of Bashir’s followers abandoned him and joined Jemaah Ansharusy Syariah. It is directly part of al Qaeda’s global network now, according to its leader. (See LWJ report, Islamic State launches suicide assault in Indonesia’s capital.)

Yet another group in region, Mujahideen Indonesion Timor (MIT), is also loyal to the Islamic State. Abu Warda Santoso, the MIT leader, swore allegiance to the Islamic State in 2014. His group was previously listed by the US as a terrorist group last year. Last month, the US Department of State added Santoso to its list of global terrorists. (See LWJ report, US adds emir of Mujahidin Indonesia Timur to list of global terrorists.)

Trump advisor: We'll give Israel more aid than Obama

I'd be satisfied if it was also thrown in that we'd send troops and bombers in to assist with the extermination of Hamas and Hezbollah.

The story comes from Israel National News.

Trump advisor: We'll give Israel more aid than Obama

Israel need not rush to negotiate a new Memorandum of Understanding with the current administration, a senior aide to Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump told Channel 2 on Wednesday.

The Memorandum of Understanding, which sets the terms and quantity of US military aid to Israel is set to expire in 2018. President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu have conducted negotiations for months regarding a replacement agreement, yet have failed to finalize any deal.

Conflicting reports have emerged from the Obama administration, with some suggesting the White House was looking to cut aid to the Jewish state, though Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed the US was preparing “the largest single pledge of military assistance from the United States to any country in our history”.

Some reports also indicated the stalemate revolved around Obama administration demands that a higher portion of the aid be spent in the US. Currently roughly three quarters of US aid to the Israeli military must be spent on US military hardware.

While Trump suggested in March that he would expect allies like Israel to pay back aid they had received over the years “big league”, on Wednesday David Friedman, an advisor to the GOP’s likely nominee, said a Trump White House would significantly increase aid to Israel.

“Our view is that the aid package to Israel will certainly not go down, and in all likelihood it will go up in a material amount, because Israel must maintain a technological and military superiority in the region.”

Friedman also hinted that Israel would find the terms of negotiation with a Trump presidency far more favorable than with the current administration.

“I can’t give advice on how Israel should bargain and how it should develop its own strategy. But the Trump administration is not looking to cut back on foreign aid and in all likelihood will increase it significantly.”

Separate bomb attacks kill at least 22 in Afghanistan

The Taliban are alive and well in Afghanistan - 22 Afghan security guards and others....are not.

The story comes from DAWN.

Separate bomb attacks kill at least 22 in Afghanistan

KABUL: More than 20 people were killed in separate bomb attacks in Afghanistan on Monday, including at least 14 when a suicide bomber struck a minibus carrying Nepalese security contractors in the Afghan capital, officials said.

In Kabul, a Reuters witness saw several apparently dead victims and at least two wounded being carried out of the twisted remains of a yellow bus after the suicide bomber struck the vehicle during the morning rush hour in the capital.

Hours later, a bomb planted in a motorbike killed at least eight civilians and wounded another 18 in a crowded market in the northern province of Badakhshan, said provincial government spokesman Naveed Frotan. The casualty count could rise, he said.

The attacks are the latest in a recent surge of violence that highlights the challenges faced by the Afghan government in Kabul and its Western backers as Washington slowly draws down its remaining troops despite a persistent insurgency.

Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said on Twitter that 14 people had been killed and eight wounded in the attack in Kabul. Police were working to identify the victims, he said.

"The suicide bomber targeted a minibus of security guards of a foreign company, right now we are working to identify the nationalities of the victims," said Sediqqi.

The casualties appeared to include Afghan civilians and Nepalese security contractors, Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi said after police and emergency vehicles surrounded the scene in the Banae district in the east of the city.

He said the suicide bomber had waited near a compound housing the security contractors and struck as the vehicle moved through early morning traffic. As well as the bus passengers, several people in an adjacent market were also wounded in the attack, which occurred during Ramazan.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the Kabul attack in a statement from the militant group's main spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, on Twitter. There was no immediate indication of who carried out the attack in Badakshan.

The Nepalese government was still working through its embassy in Pakistan, which also oversees Afghanistan, to verify reports that its citizens were involved in the attack, Foreign Ministry spokesman Bharat Paudel said.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his condolences to his two South Asian neighbours after the attack.

“We strongly condemn the horrible tragedy in Kabul. Our deep condolences to people & Govts of Afghanistan & Nepal on loss of innocent lives,” Modi said on Twitter.

Another explosion in Kabul later on Monday morning wounded a provincial council member and at least three of his bodyguards, Kabul police spokesman Basir Mujahid said. It was thought a bomb had been attached to the lawmaker's car, he said.

The attacks underlined how serious the security threat facing Afghanistan remains since former Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour was killed in a US drone strike last month and was replaced by Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada.

The blasts follow a deadly suicide attack on a bus carrying justice ministry staff near Kabul last month and a separate attack on a court in the central city of Ghazni on June 1.

The Taliban claimed both those attacks in revenge for the execution of six Taliban prisoners.

Pakistan woman paraded with blackened face, shaved head for eloping

One of the many great sins in Islam....eloping.  Yeah, it's 2016 people.

The story comes from Times of India.

Pakistan woman paraded with blackened face, shaved head for eloping

LAHORE: A 23-year-old woman was paraded in her village streets with blackened face and shaved off head by her family members for allegedly eloping with a man, the latest in a series of 'honour' related crimes in Pakistan's Punjab province.

According to eyewitnesses, the family members including parents of the woman, on Saturday paraded her in the streets outside her house after blackening her face and shaving off her head in a village of Uch Sharif, Bahawalpur, some 400km from Lahore.

Reports said the woman who had allegedly eloped with a man of another village returned home a week later.

On her return, her family members including father, husband and step-mother reportedly tortured her secretly and then presented her before a Panchayat (a gathering of area elders) that announced punishment for her for her crime of 'dishonouring the family'.

Senior police officer Ehsan Sadiq told reporters that an FIR has been registered against 10 family members of the woman and the Panchayat members and arrested the victim's father and step-mother.

He said police would soon arrest the remaining suspects and complete investigation at the earliest.

Punjab, Pakistan's most populous state, has seen a spur in honour-related crimes, including honour killing, in recent times.

Two pregnant women have been brutally killed by their parents in last one week for contracting marriage against will of their families.

At least 1,100 women were killed in the name of honour in Pakistan last year by their relatives on the pretext of defending what is seen as family

The Parents of ISIS Jihadis Aren't Even Safe

I guess if you are a Muslim couple and your son turns to ISIS membership, you better not rest easy at night.

The story comes from The Clarion Project via The Religion of Peace.

ISIS Fighter Slaughters Parents for Refusing to Hand Over Brothers

An Islamic State fighter in Iraq murdered his parents after they refused to give his younger brothers over to the terror organization.

A local source in the province of Nineveh who requested anonymity told Al Smumaria News this week, “An Islamic State [ISIS/ISIL] militant has committed a crime against his parents by slaughtering them with a knife in the area of Al Razalani, west of Nineveh, because his parents refused to allow his brothers to be recruited to the organization.

“ISIS is suffering from the defection of most of its fighters and they are imposing ‘recruitment’ on youth and children in their camps in Nineveh and the province of Tel Afar, which includes more than five camps for child recruitment where they teach them about explosives and street fighting.”

The capital city of the Nineveh province, Mosul, was captured by the Islamic State in June 10, 2014. Iraq forces, trained by the U.S., recently recaptured the village of Nasr, 35 miles south of Mosul after an embarrassingly long three-month offensive.

Dead Victims Update For This Holy Time of Islam

ISIS attack in Iraq kills 15 members of security forces

So let me get this straight....Iraq (and mostly Iran) are busy trying to break the ISIS hold on Fallujah and at the same time ISIS knocks off 15 security forces in an area controlled by Baghdad.  Gotcha.

JV, I tells ya.

The story comes from Al Arabiya.

ISIS attack in Iraq kills 15 members of security forces

ISIS has killed 15 members of the local security forces in attacks on villages in northern Iraq, officials said on Friday.

The attack was launched late Thursday on villages west of the restive town of Tuz Khurmatu, which lies in an ethnically mixed area 160 kilometers (100 miles) north of Baghdad.

The ensuing clashes killed 15 members of the police, of a Turkmen paramilitary organization and of the Kurdish peshmerga.

“Twelve people, six members of the police and six of the Hashed al-Turkmani were killed in the fighting against Daesh (ISIS),” said Abu Ridha al-Najjar, the local leader of the Turkmen group.

“The attack began in Birahmed area last night,” he said of a cluster of villages west of Tuz Khurmatu.

The Hashed al-Turkmani is a local branch of the Hashed al-Shaabi, a national umbrella organisation dominated by Tehran-backed Shiite militias.

In and around Tuz Khurmatu and other areas in Iraq’s Turkmen heartland, Shiite Turkmen fighters belonging to these militias fight under the banner of the Hashed al-Turkmani.

Mullah Karim Shakur, a local peshmerga official, said three Kurdish fighters were also killed in the fighting.

The attack was claimed by ISIS in an online statement. The jihadists still hold nearby areas, such as the town of Hawijah and parts of the Hamreen mountain range.

Tuz Khurmatu is in an area theoretically under Baghdad’s authority, but the autonomous northern region of Kurdistan has a military presence there and claims the area as its own.

The town has been the scene of deadly skirmishes between Shiite Turkmen and Kurdish forces in recent months.

Taliban seizes a district in Uruzgan

I'd have to say that the progress of the Taliban in retaking control of Afghanistan has been much slower than I anticipated but they are making progress and they WILL make my prediction come true that they will take complete control of Afghanistan (without outside intervention) within a year.

The story comes from The Long War Journal.

Taliban seizes a district in Uruzgan

The Taliban took control of a district center in the central Afghan province of Uruzgan after several days of fighting Afghan forces who are reported to have been supported by US forces.

The Taliban said it overran the “police HQ [headquarters] and other installations” at Char Chino and “dismantled” the “district administration center and other buildings.” The jihadist group made the claim on its official propaganda website, Voice of Jihad.

According to the Taliban, it launched the attack yesterday morning and killed 35 “puppets,” or Afghan police and military personnel. The Taliban claimed it destroyed two armored personnel carriers and 7 Ford Ranger pickup trucks. Four Taliban fighters were killed during the assault, the group claimed.

The fall of Char Chino was confirmed by Stars & Stripes, which reported that “the international coalition was providing support to government forces” during the fighting.

However, the spokesman for Uruzgan province claimed that the governor’s office was still under Afghan forces’ control and security forces withdrew from the police headquarters in a “tactical move,” Stars and Stripes reported.

The Taliban currently control 39 districts in Afghanistan and contest another 43, according to data compiled by The Long War Journal. Districts under Taliban control are being administered by the group, or it controls the district center. Typically the Taliban controls all of the areas of a district except the administrative center in contested districts. The Taliban likely controls or contests more districts displayed on the map above, however the districts listed on the map are ones that can be confirmed via independent sources such as Taliban claims, government reports, and news reports.

In Uruzgan, the Taliban contest four districts and control one more (Char Chino).

Fighting in the provinces has intensified over the past month. Just prior to taking Char Chino, the Taliban killed 11 Afghan soldiers and captured 12 others in the district of Dehrawood on June 7. And on May 31, the Taliban overran 11 police checkposts in Gizab district.

The Taliban considers Uruzgan to be a strategic district, and has previously said that it controls all areas of the province except for the district centers.

In a Voice of Jihad interview in April 2016 with Mullah Aminullah Yousuf, the Taliban’s shadow governor for Uruzgan, he described the province as “the linking point for many provinces” and a traditional “strong fortress of mujahideen.”

“The enemy thinks that if the province fell into the mujahideen’s hands, recapturing it back would be very hard,” Yousef said.

Yousef explained that US, Dutch, and Australian forces committed significant resources to secure Uruzgan and stand up to the police and Arbakis, or local militias. But the Taliban continued to fight in the province and gained grounds after Coalition forces withdrew.

“[I]n the course of last year, with the exception of district headquarters, all villages, suburbs, and valleys slipped away from enemy hands,” Yousef claimed in April.

Yousef said the Taliban would continue to pursue gaining control of the district centers, and predicted that the loss of all five districts would be a serious problem for the Afghan government.

“If … the mujahideen capture the headquarters of districts as we expect and have plans for, then provincial headquarters will not be able to resist. It would be a big blow to the enemy, and the enemy would leave the area,” he stated.

Now one of Uruzgan’s five district centers is controlled by the Taliban.

There are 8 openly gay imams in the world: Daayiee Abdullah

Somebody.  Please pass the popcorn.  LMFAO.

The story comes from Times of India.

There are 8 openly gay imams in the world: Daayiee Abdullah

African-American Daayiee Abdullah (62) is one of the few publicly gay imams in the world. Born in Detroit to Southern Baptist parents, he converted to Islam at 30. A law graduate, Abdullah is the imam of an LGBT-friendly mosque in Washington DC. He speaks to Aarti Tikoo Singh. Some excerpts:

What was your reaction to the Orlando mass shootings?

I felt a sense of sadness and shock. Being a Black person, when such incidents happen, one hopes that it is not a Black person. Similarly as a Muslim person, one hopes it isn't a Muslim. And when it turned out to be a Muslim, one knew that a certain playbook was going to come out.

Do you think it was a hate crime or terror attack or radical Islamism or mental sickness or gun-control problem?

His father's statement that Omar Mateen was upset by men kissing each other indicate hate. But don't men in Muslim countries kiss each other? I have kissed men in Muslim countries. It is nothing sexual but camaraderie. Muslims have put themselves in a very narrow band and it is falling apart, literally. There is nothing wrong with Quran. The problem is with how people have interpreted it.

Does Islam approve of homosexuality?

It definitely does. There is nothing in the Quran that says anything against it. It does talk about men who have no desire for women and about non-reproducing women. Also in Sura 24, verses 31 and 32, in particular verse 32, it says "marry the unmarried among you" even if they are "among male and female slaves". The Quran does not suggest gender for marriage. During my research in Saudi Arabia, I found positive interpretation on homosexuality in Quran. But the literature coming out from Wahhabist and Salafist schools, puts an incorrect interpretation on it.

Are Wahhabi and Salafist interpretations of Islam a problem in the world today?

Yes, it is a problem. The Gulf and Saudi oil money has helped to promote narrow interpretations of Islam. They want Muslims to go back to a mythological pristine Islam. There is no pristine Islam. It is important to remember how Islam came about in a historical context. Some of the things that were practised then can't necessarily be relevant today. The beauty of Quran is that it says it will meet the needs of humans for all times. So a better, liberal interpretation of Quran for modern times and lives is possible too. As Saudi runs out of oil, they won't be as efficient in their propagation of radical Islam as they have been.

Is West suitable for Islam?

There are several open-minded Islamic scholars in the West who argue that the best setting for Islam and the best way to enjoy Islam's spirit, is a secular society and I tend to agree with them. Some imam in mid 1800s went to Paris and said to have seen Islam but no Muslims and when he went to a Muslim country, he saw no Islam.

Is it difficult to be a gay imam publicly?

If the question is 'do we exist', of course, we do exist. There are 12 gay imams in the world and eight are openly gay. It is not difficult for an individual to be openly a gay imam but it depends on the cultural context. In the West, there is much more acceptance of gay imams or Muslim gays. In the Muslim majority states, a vast majority of them will find it a problem. It is not necessarily a problem with the governments, but it is a problem with their culture.

America's Muslim CIA Director Says Saudi Arabian Government Will Be Cleared of 9/11 Involvement

This story comes from DAWN and it seems a bit benign in that CIA director John Brennan claims that the Saudi government will be cleared of involvement in the 9/11 terror attacks in America.  But let's just review a few things from an article at the DCClothesline from back in August of 2015:

Before John Owen Brennan became Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on March 8, 2013, he had spent 25 years with the CIA in a succession of positions, including as a Near East and South Asia analyst, station chief in Saudi Arabia, chief of staff to CIA director George Tenet, and director of the National Counterterrorism Center.

There have long been rumors that John Owen Brennan is a Muslim convert. A member of this Consortium, John Molloy, Chairman of the National Vietnam & Gulf War Veterans Coalition, has heard of those rumors from his military sources.

So, bottom line is this - no one has dispelled Brennan's conversion to Islam and certainly no one can refute the long standing ties Brennan has had with the Saudi government.

So, when you read this article...make sure you have a pile of salt grains sitting next to you.

No proof of Saudi govt involvement in Sept 11 attacks, says CIA chief

WASHINGTON: CIA Director John Brennan has said there is no evidence that the Saudi government or senior Saudi officials supported the Sept 11 attacks.

Mr Brennan’s remarks, in a weekend interview with al-Arabiya news channel, addressed the still-secret 28 pages of a congressional inquiry into the 2001 attacks, in which 15 of the 19 hijackers were citizens of Saudi Arabia.

President Barack Obama has promised to publicly release all or part of the 28 pages of the report, which could happen as early as this month. The rest of the report was released in December 2002.

Bob Graham, who was co-chairman of that bipartisan congressional panel, and others say the 28 pages point suspicion at the Saudis. Mr Graham said it was important for the public to know that all of the still-classified allegations were thoroughly investigated.

Mr Brennan had said earlier that the 28 pages contained preliminary information about possible Saudi links to the attackers that had not been corroborated or vetted at the time. He said that the 9/11 Commission, which did a follow-on investigation into the attacks, ultimately found nothing that pointed to Saudi complicity.

“Subsequently the Sept 11 commission looked very thoroughly at these allegations of Saudi involvement, Saudi government involvement and their finding; their conclusion was that there was no evidence to indicate that the Saudi government as an institution or Saudi senior officials individually had supported the Sept 11 attacks,” Mr Brennan told al-Arabiya, the Saudi-owned broadcaster, on Saturday.

“Indeed, subsequently the assessments that have been done have shown it was very unfortunate that these attacks took place but this was the work of Al Qaeda, (Al Qaeda leader Ayman) al-Zawahri, and others of that ilk,” said Mr Brennan, who called Riyadh a strong US partner in fighting terrorism. The CIA chief said he supported the release of the still classified part of the congressional inquiry.

The Saudi government says it has been “wrongfully and morbidly accused of complicity” in the attacks, is fighting extremists and working to clamp down on their funding channels. Still, the Saudis have long said they would welcome declassification of the 28 pages because it would “allow us to respond to any allegations in a clear and credible manner”.

Hillary Clinton Speaks To Her Voter Base

Two Takes On a Free Pass For Islamic Terror

The father of the shooter who killed 50 people at a gay nightclub in Florida said his son became enraged recently when he saw two men kissing — and that may have been what sparked the worst mass shooting in US history.

Mir Seddique, shooter Omar Seddique Mateen’s father, insisted to NBC News that the slaughter at Pulse in Orlando “has nothing to do with religion.”

Clinton, September 11, 2012: “Some Have Sought To Justify This Vicious Behavior As A Response To Inflammatory Material Posted On The Internet.” “Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation.

Hillary Must Have an Explanation For the Orlando Islamic Terror Attack, Right?

Islamic State claims blasts near Damascus Shia shrine

I'm curious - does Bashir al-Assad stay in the same place all of the time nowadays?  Is he even IN Syria?

The story comes from Times of India.

Islamic State claims blasts near Damascus Shia shrine

AMMAN: The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the suicide and car bomb blasts that struck a Damascus suburb on Saturday near Syria's holiest Shia Muslim shrine, and a monitoring group said at least 20 people were killed.

State television showed debris, mangled cars and wrecked shops in a main commercial thoroughfare near the Sayeda Zeinab shrine, in an area where at least three bomb attacks claimed by Islamic State have killed and wounded scores of people this year.

The ultra-hardline Sunni militants of ISIS, whose many foes are advancing on a number of fronts in both Syria and Iraq, are avowed enemies of Shias, whom they consider a heretical group within Islam.

State media said at least eight people were killed. But the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the death toll had risen to at least 20, including at least 13 civilians, with the other victims coming from pro-government militias. It said the number was expected to rise because many of the scores of wounded people were in critical condition.

Islamic State said two of its suicide bombers had blown themselves up and operatives had detonated an explosives-laden car, according to the ISIS-affiliated Amaq news agency.

The Sayeda Zeinab shrine is a magnet for thousands of Iraqi and Afghan Shia militia recruits who go there before being assigned to front lines, where they fight against the Sunni rebel groups trying to topple President Bashar al-Assad. Almost every Shia militia fighter bears insignia on his combat fatigues with the words "For your sake, Sayeda Zeinab".

Sectarian split

The heavily garrisoned area near the shrine is also a well known stronghold of Lebanon's powerful Shia Hezbollah group, an Iranian-backed movement that is one of Assad's chief allies.

Non-jihadist rebels say Iran's strong military intervention on the side of Assad, alongside its backing of other Shia militias, is fuelling the sectarian dimension of the nearly six-year Syrian civil war by drawing even more radical foreign Sunni jihadists into the country.

Separately, US-backed Syrian forces made new territorial gains against Islamic State on Saturday, moving closer to another of its major strongholds in northern Syria, according to the monitoring group.

The observatory said the Syria Democratic Forces (SDF), bringing together Kurdish and Arab fighters, were now almost 17km (10 miles) from the city of al-Bab, an Islamic State stronghold north east of Aleppo.

The SDF on Friday cut off the last route into the encircled town of Manbij from al-Bab after over a week of advances around that area, allowing it to lay siege to the large town from all directions, the monitor said..

In other frontlines in northern Syria, two rebel sources said Russian and Syrian jets stepped up their relentless aerial bombing of their positions in the northern city of Aleppo.

Breaking: Hillary Clinton Personal Diary Leaked

Twisting and turning unable to sleep
DO THE VOICES EVER STOP
My thoughts speak louder the more I resist
AND THEY'RE DRIVING ME INSANE
DO THEY EVER GO

Inside I'm a danger to myself
I'M A DANGER TO MYSELF
Inside I'm a prisoner of my own hell
MY OWN HELL

Losing the battle I've waged on myself
LOCK ME UP AND TOSS THE KEY
Toys in the attic it's all getting worse
WHY WON'T I LET ME BE OH GOD MAKE IT STOP

Inside I'm a danger to myself
I'M A DANGER TO MYSELF
Inside I'm a prisoner of my own hell
MY OWN HELL

FIT ME FOR A STRAIGHT JACKET
PUT ME IN A PADDED CELL
I'M A DANGER TO YOU ALL
And I'm a danger to myself

Inside I'm a danger to myself
I'M A DANGER TO MYSELF
Inside I'm a prisoner of my own hell
MY OWN HELL

Inside I'm a danger to myself
I'M A DANGER TO MYSELF
Inside I'm a prisoner of my own hell
MY OWN HELL
